Most people pay no attention to my radios, it's the antennas that freak them out. -Marcus |

Just pick a high power radio, slip a hot dog on the antenna, and call it the new George Foreman. |

During that bomb scare on Queen Anne in Seattle last week, I came walking out of my building (which is just on the edge of the evacuated area) with scanner in hand. There was a cop right there in front of me and directly in front of him was the command post for the event. A Sgt. was talking on his radio and my scanner was set kinda loud so I turned some heads. They all looked at me for a few seconds then promptly got back to their business. The most common question I receive is "can you talk to them?" During the Blue Angels practice sessions people from my office were asking me that every time one of the pilots said something. "Yeah, I can talk to the frickin' Blue Angels" Duh. |

Its fun to go down the freeway in your car/truck with all the antennas on the roof & your call letters on your licences plate, talking on your radio. To watch all the idiots jam on there brakes in panick. That's Priceless |

A few years ago -- I was on my way from Seattle to Portland. I needed a pit stop -- and picked a small run down gas station. As I pulled up on the side -- near the restrooms -- one of the idiot gas jockeys wanted to know if I could talk to Mars or the moon -. I just did my thing and left -- without saying a word to the "jackass" -- as Matlock would call him. -- Turns out he called the cops. I got pulled over. I had a nice talk with a local officer and he went back and had a "chat" with the idiot that made a false call to 911. On my way back -- I stopped in to say hello to the guy. He wasn't there. He got fired. ---- Just stay cool and don't say anything -- to anyone. Tell them to mind their own business -- and walk away. |

bizzare! He sounds like the guy who was pulling people over in Wilsonville last month, in a security car, asking for id, all the while shadowed by a OSP trooper, who then pulled him over with real lights and such. Said guy went to jail--a real one! |

the guy would not have been driving a white car would he? I got hassled by a Beaverton Detective once because I had radios in my car, he accused me of playing cop and that he was going to arrest me for impersonation, MMM none of the radios I had in my car were set to any police frequencies nor fire freqs just ham stuff, I did not even have a scanner, and then he told me it was illegal for me to own Motorola radios! HAH what a Joke! I could go on and on but it would get boring after a bit! |

About 10 years ago, I was walking through Northgate mall with a friend. I had my 2 meter HT and he was holding my scanner. A teenager broke off from a group of mall dwellers and asked if we were "security." My friend and I gave each other a conspiratorial look and told him we "couldn't answer that question." He went back to the herd and I heard him say something about how we were "security." So my friend and I kept walking, and came back about 10 minutes later to see the same herd in the same place (I guess it's their natural habitat). The kid we talked to was just staring at us. We walked over and said, "OK, you people have been here too long. Move along!" And they actually DID! (If they'd objected at all we'd have told them we were just messing with them.) The kid muttered something about "security" as he walked off to the other end of the mall. We were cracking up. We weren't uniformed, and we never identified ourselves as any kind of official. It was just the radios and his wild imagination. I bet if he recounted the story he's say a couple of "cops" were hassling him. The "man" was infringing on his constitutional right to loiter! |
