And what to with all the wideband radios appearing on the market.

VHF:
Crank em down to 2 watts as its legal to run wideband on unlicensed MURS frequencies 154.570 and 154.600.
Dedicated APRS radio for base/mobile.
Echolink base radio.

UHF:
Hook a pair together for an amateur repeater.
Amateur repeater link transmitter.
Echolink base radio.

So my 35 UHF P200/HT600's are dead in 740 days?

I think GMRS is the only portion of the UHF commercial band exempt from narrowbanding. Of course we can expect wideband to live on for years on itinerants as I doubt a lot of small operations will change out their radios.

Low band is staying wideband actually too.
