There is a bicycle messenger in Vancouver, BC who uses a voice pager to take orders from clients. Clients leave a message on a voicemail and that message is broadcasted to his pager. It sounds like a pretty good way to receive orders, there is no trying to ride down the street talking on a cell phone. What is this technology? It sounds pretty reliable. Does anyone know of anyone who offers this service?

Voice Paging systems have been in use for many years. We still work on Motorola Keynote pagers for a local hospital, mill and besides all the fire departments that use Minitor series pagers.

Apollo makes a voice pager that closely resembles the Keynote.

Google any of these and you should find a load of information.

One of the hospitals here in Portland used a voice pager for in-house paging for doctors for the longest time. I was told that the system was supposed to be engineered to only cover the campus, but the coverage was in reality much bigger and you could get a page from the other side of the highway. I remember they looked like a portable version of a small RadioShack intercom.
