Post subject: | Virtual P500 banks |
So... I took the plunge and am getting a PSR-500. If I understand the manual correctly, I can program virtual banks.... so i downloaded Win500 from http://www.starrsoft.com and have been getting ready for the radio. I'm primarily listening in King Co., so I have a King County Virtual Scanner. I'm also creating a Pierce and Sno Cty set because there's so much to do there... Then I'm making a Western WA, Eastern WA, Oregon Coast, Willamette Valley/Eastern OR, and probably a couple more for other areas I go to from time to time.... So.... questions for you PSR-500 owners out there: 1) does this make sense? 2) is it easy to switch between these on the fly as you drive around (it appears so to me from the manual) 3) Would you go more/less granular, and why? 4) would you be interested in sharing files, particularly anything with P25 & LTR since I've not bothered with those before.... |

I filled up 18 banks on my 197 using win.500 Bank 0 is kind of a conventional dumping ground; railroads, fed conventional rptrs, etc 2 Thurston/Lewis 3 Tacoma/Pierce -TRS and Conv 4Seattle/KC -mostly trunked 5Portland/BOEC -mostly trunked 6SE Wash - Benton Co TRS and Franklin/Walla Walla Co. Benton Co TRS soon to be P25 7Umatilla -Mostly 400mhz trunking Haven't got the tables right yet 8Clark Co/CRESSA 9WCCCA Wash Co Ore 10 LP/Drive Thurs 11 Clackamas Co - Both Clack/Wash county simulcast in each system 12 Willamette Valley- Some Eugene stuff but haven't got the NAC codes yet 13 Cen. Oregon -Bend/Redmond TRS Received this system from Klickitat Co 14 Col. Gorge -Hood River/Wasco/Sherman/Gilliam/Skamania/Klickitat Co 15 Cen. Wash- Kittitas/Chelan/Douglas/Grant/Lincoln 16 Ft Lewis TRS 17 McChord I could dump this one since I don't get it from home and they may merge with Ft Lewis at some point. 18 Yakima County I could move Clackamas into bank 7 so it's arrangement would be 1 less keystroke FUNC+# to choose a bank beyond 10 to keep it organized in a I-5 and eastern Ore Wash scheme but haven't done it yet. I like this arrangement as I'm in the gorge or e wash I can listen to one county or region based on population and can still assign fed channels like TSA and others like LERN or fire nets in multiple banks without taking up more blocks |

Personally, I gave up on the thing after I figured out what I needed to do to program it. I miss the banks. When I get back into programming it - I will program the 20 lists as: 1 Quiet listening for area 1. 2 More listening for area 1. 3 Everything else for area 1. 4 Wildcard for area 1. 5 Start the same for Area 2. You will find you can really mix a lot of trunking together in any list because the TSYS is imbedded by reference in each scannable object. Virtual memory makes it real easy to completely setup a functional scanner for any area - or setup several different ways of scanning the same area - and change easily on the fly. Obviously a big time programming exercise. |

THanks for getting this started. I'll contribute when I get up to speed. Let's rename these v1.0 and then run from there. See what develops could be very cool. |
