Post subject: | Window clip antenna mount |
Several years ago Radio Shack sold a window clip antenna mount. This device would sit on a window and you would roll up the window to keep it in place. On the outside, you would attach the "rubber duck" antenna from your scanner and on the part inside the window there was a cable that would attach to the antenna mount on your scanner. I have seen one or two of these recently on ebay. Apparently RS no longer sells them. Has anyone in the group used one of these and if so how effective were they? I am looking for something relatively inexpensive that I can use on my pickup to increase listening range while I am out and about. Many thanks, Wayne |

Many thanks, Wayne I've used one in rental cars for years, and also hanging over the curtain rod in hotel rooms. Works fine for me. Not as good as a decent mag mount in the center of the roof or hotel a/c unit, but a decent solution for carry-on luggage travelling. It primarily depends on the duck antenna you use. The stock one with my PSR works great, but an aftermarket multiband duck should work wonders. |

Suggestion: I would do an "image search" with google for "window clip antenna mount" and go from there. You will be able to view the images of many styles and possibly find a source. I used one several years ago and found an increase of signal strength reception in marginal areas. |

As promised, reporting back after receiving the BNC window antenna mount purchased off ebay. Well worth the >$20 shipped to my door. I was surprised at the quality, and for my purposes it works great. (employer freaks if even a mag mount appears on their rig) |

I have a little MFJ window clip that works good for the scanner and will TX with a 5W radio. |

I've used one on the company car from time to time for several years and it is alot better than having the scanner inside the vehicle. I want to say I got mine thru one of the ham stores (HRO or AES). Here's the MFJ version....which is also available in an SMA mount. Results of course varie with what antenna you use. I've been thinking about getting something like a RH77 and trying that given the reports of how it works on a scanner. http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.p ... id=MFJ-310 |
