why do you have more than one scanner?

Post subject:  why do you have more than one scanner?
Some of you must have more than one or two scanners. I would like to know why. Just curious

I can see where you would have a portable and one at home and maybe one in the car but who has multiples at home, all going at once?

I do a lot of listing to trains. I have my vx150 tuned to the main dispatch channel. I have a PRO49 which listens to local yard channels. I have a BC246T that I use to scan all 99 railroad channels. And when I get home I switch over to railroad radio to save some batteries. I have many radios because I don't want to miss anything. It looks really weird but I know what is going on.

I have 4.

-A PSR500 for nearly everything;
-A SC200 for maybe one or two dedicated freqs while using the PSR for something else;
-A Pro-94 I haven't used since 2004; and
-A 200xlt I haven't used since...1998?

Working for a 2-way radio dealer we need the ability to monitor several bands at once. Lo/VHF/UHF/800mhz. I also use separate radios at home and in the vehicle to monitor different bands.

My signature shows what I have.

My 2055's are all in different locations. The only two radios that are right next to each other and are going all of the time are my TK-8180 and 1 of my 2055's. Because of the time it takes to scan through all of the channels, it helps to hear everything when you have more than one radio scanning. Plus, the commercial rig is much better tuned and wil pick up things that my scanner won't on a regular basis.

mine just started breading... I only purchased one for the car and one for the house... I left them in the house one day came back to a bunch of baby radios.

I liked the features of the Uniden DMA scanners so I bought one. But I couldn't give up my Pro-97 because it's easy to program and works great for figuring out LTR systems. Now I have two 97s since one stays programmed with various agencies so it's easy to turn it on and listen to Seattle Fire or something. The other gets lots of stuff programmed in and out.

Three reasons.
1. Electronic Opiates scanners are. My fingertips are nearly worn smooth from the heat of furious programming.
2.Because I want to hear the TSA actually do something besides bathroom relief.
3. See rule 1, rinse and repeat.

There is a job to have. Interestingly I was listening to a bank robbery here in Everett last week. It was key bank on evergreen way. They had video/pictures, witnesses, a description, and they had a containment zone of several vehicles that moved north. It was interesting to follow and the oddest thing is that the Everett Herald didn't mention a word of it.

I always hated that paper. They are worthless for news.

Well Im one of those multi scanner people. I have my main Pro 433 for scanning. A handheld, probably 10 yr old Pro 93, an ancient Opti Scan with binary code programming, which I mostly turn on because the 10 yellow lights look sweet. And lastly a very old Realistic Patrolman I just got off Ebay, that was "working", but its totally tweaking out, so I will have to get it repaired. Id like to knock it over the guys head that sold it to me, but he is in Kansas so that would be a long drive.

Multiple scanners are useful if something is happening on one channel, you can just sit on that one channel on your main scanner, and still get the other stuff on your other one or two. The other night I was monitoring a Burg in progress on Bellingham PD, a suicide attempt in the county, and on the 3rd I was listening to the low band freq of BPD to hear the perimeter being set up for the burg in progress. That was pretty sweet lol.

Bellingham runs low band?
or a different BPD?

Bellingham PD doesn't operate on low band. Both Bellingham PD and WCSO refer to their VHF channels (155.070 and 155.610) as "low band" and their UHF channels (453.225 and 453.325) as "high band" .
