Can anyone recommend a trustworthy place to have a BC-780XLT scanner repaired? I was visiting my parents for the holidays and noticed the power/volume knob on their 780 was apparently turned too far in the wrong direction. The scanner seems to work fine, but there is now a short in the volume control and the knob is loose. I am competent with minor repair jobs (if it involves a pair of plyers and a soldering iron I can handle it), but have never taken the 780 apart and thought perhaps a professional service center might be the way to go in this case. IMHO, your best bet would be to have them send it back for repair at Uniden. But after repair and shipping costs, it might be better just to buy them a new scanner..? |

Ok...please disregard my post. Just discovered that the problem is in the plastic knob itself, not the actual switch. The tiny grasping insert "band" that slides on the actual switch shaft is loose and the knob is cracked. Looks like a job for super-glue. So releived it's not as bad as I thought. I love the 780! |
