Post subject:  SWAT team "#1 side" etc...

I have always wondered, when the SWAT team is out front and they say they are going to my #2 or #3 side, how do they figure which side is which?

I assume #1 is the front, and logically #3 would be the back on a simple, square(ish) building, but how do they figure the actual side #'s?

Also, I heard reference to the #1 -1 -1 window.
I am guessing #1 side, 1st floor, 1st window, but would that be from the left? or right?

also a,b,c,d

Left to right, 1 is front enterence 2 is right 3 is back or next right ...etc

window is the same right to left (AFAIK)

edit : I dyslexia the L and R and accidentally put R to L

1 Left 4 Right 4 corner house would be

1 front door
2 right side from looking at the front door
3 rear from front door

also A would be front and C rear

Before team goes on a raid, they get together and talk about the raid and that is when they are told what side is which and what window is what. I have always assumed looking at the front of the house, side 1 front, right side would be side two the back 3 and the left 4, if the house is square that is. So just counter clockwise pretty much. All just speculation though since I am not a SWAT member. But if they thought they might be being listened in on by whomever they are raiding they might change it up a little bit.

i can confirm that is standard LEO/military practice. they wouldn't typically change it up - as you wouldn't change any procedure that needs to be second nature, however if communication is required they will just use nexthell or encrypted depending on how they are operating, they wouldn't typically obfuscate the procedure but the names of things. aka code names for places or people

For fire suppression, there are in general two rules used..

1. Side facing the road is side A. (normally the front of the structure)

2. Side where the command post is setup is side A.

In general the first in engine will normally stop at the front of the structure which will be the road side and also where command is setup.

But ultimately it's commands call on what side A is.

In fire suppression, after side A is established, do they go clockwise or counter-clockwise to establish B-C-D, etc.?

Are you sure "Fire suppression" doesn't refer to Fire Fighting ? In Law Enforcement terms -- fire suppression is "Duck & Cover".
