I got to play with a few on Thursday and Friday. The pricing is still up in the air. It seems like a fully loaded unit with P25 Secure Trunking, GPS/IV&D, and the ability to roam between bands in trunking will make it a little pricey. You won't see these guys on the road for a few months. I did volunteer with the product manager to beta a few. And they will do 2m and 440.........

Even if I do carry a Motorola, which some feel is really attached to my body, I still can't use the exact words to describe this unit, but "No bueno por shit" is close. Both Metro New York City and Los Angeles County -- the number 1 and 2 largest Metro areas of the United States -- with a population of over 30 million persons -- about 10 percent of the entire US population, use the UHF or UHF - T Band frequencys. ( 450 to 512 Mhz) Someone at the big M -- "was out to lunch" on this one. And after the elections -- the needed "Federal Homeland Security Grants" may go bye bye. Who can aford a $ 4,000 radio -- that doesn't even have UHF ???

Thales has a radio out called the Thales Liberty: http://www.thalesliberty.com/about_liberty.asp

It can communicate across all of the public safety bands 136-174 MHz, 380-520 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, P25 and Analog in one HT. It will do P25 trunking but not Motorola trunking. This radio has been out months before Motorola Multi-band Radio.

No, it replaces the VHF band in the VHF/700/800 version.
