Many of the boards have the news that Tom Kneitel has died.

Those who have been in the monitoring hobby for some time will remember his
books on CB, scanning & shortwave listening. He was one of the pioneers of our hobby.

Not long ago Gene Hughes of "Police Call" passed away. They will both be missed.

Tom really knew his stuff. I still have one of his antenna books (circa 1966) on the shelf. He was a real asset to the radio hobby.

I have to share a Ton Kneitel story. Years before his "Popular Communications" gig, he wrote "Uncle Tom's Corner," a regular feature in the now defunct magazine "Electronics Illustrated." Here, he mixed humor with advice, to a very entertaining result. I recall one person wrote in and asked: "Dear Uncle Tom, Every time my neighbor's electric fence discharges, I get a bar across my TV. What should I do? Tom replied "If the bartender's a nice guy, I think you've got it made."

Not that all his answers were flip, he often gave out information explaining unusual shortwave broadcasts, etc.

I will miss him.
