I presently have an old BC245XLT and was looking for upgrade. I certainly don't want to loose any freq coverage but would find it interesting to browse the upper 1240+ band.

The BC246T looks interesting for a portable unit. Anyone have input on this or another model would be great.

Needs capability of picking up trunking for Seattle, Kent areas.

How is the audio volume on the Pro-97 and 246? I have a 396T and it's the best speaker volume on any portable scanner I've ever had. Especially when compared to my old 235T.

I have a bcd396t also.
Not the most powerful radio for audio volume, but it has a nice size and lots of bells an whistles on it to keep you busy for a few years.
And if your interested in listening to McChord or Bremerton base ops a P25 digital scanner is a must.

Sorry too far north to copy Bremerton or McChord base ops
But I do travel to washington state afew times a year so
having the 396 is a plus in hearing those systems while down there.

as for P25 systems here I can copy Crest P25 digital on the south coast of Vancouver Island from my location and afew other (clear) P25 systems that I wil not mention that operate in washington state and bc.

I bought the 246 a few weeks ago. The audio seems adequate to me, and I listen to it from across the living room, in the garage, etc. I think it's fine. I live in a bit of an RF "hole" for the Snohomish trunked system, so even my desktop scanner with an external discone gets reception that, while fine, is not as clean as I would like. The 246 with the stock antenna has reception that is pretty decent, so for me, it receives well. It was a good choice.
