I'm considering purchasing a P25 type scanner and would
like some input on which one is the best.
I see that GRE has one that should be out on Oct. 10th.
Thanks for any input.

Go for the bcd396t if you want all the bells and whistles
plus 700mhz tunking and 225-400mhz milcom band.

If your just looking for P25 mode without all the bells and whistles
and better P25 reception(so I here) than the 396 go for the Radioshack Pro-96.
I havent found a problem with reception of p25 on my bcd396t.

:D I think I would WAIT for the new GRE units to hit the market -- next month. They all look like they will do twice as much as the Pro-96 and the Bearcat units.

a P25 capable scanner in washington state???

:D P25 and HDTV are both comming. While the FCC has set a "drop dead date" for all TV Stations to switch over to HDTV --- they have not "Placed in stone" such a date for P25 conversion. But everyday -- someone is applying to convert to digital operations. Most scanner geeks -- like us --- all have a "special thing" or service we like to listen to -- other than just the local cops and fire calls. There are lots of business radio users that use digital. I love my Pro-95. But it's not digital. And I think that $ 500 is too high to pay for "just a scanner". You can get two new programmable portable radios for that price. But sooner or later -- something or someone that YOU will want to listen to, will be using digital. If the GRE units can do 3 times as much as the PRO-96 or other Bearcat Units --- it will be great. And at the same high price. Times have changed and so has the dollar. Time to face the fact that this hobby costs -- just like any other. Stamps are a lot cheaper -- but not as much fun. The NEW GRE units will do a lot more for the money.
