Post subject: | My Introductory Post |
Hello everyone! This is my introductory Post. I'm a scanning enthusasist, who aslo likes to DX on MW, SW and also listen to amateur radio on the HF, VHF and UHF frequencies. I live on a hill in Northeast Seattle, WA not too far SE from Northgate Mall just to give you an idea where I'm at. I remember when I was a young teenager 11-13 I would listen to Edmonds/Lynwood/MtLake Terrace Police and Fire from my grandparents' home in Downtown Edmonds. I have a few scanners, notably the PRO-2030 and PRO-2040. I love listening to the UHF-T Band, and VHF-Lo and the VHF Air band. They have been great radios, and I have a variety of antennas I have used with them cut for specific bands. I have looked online for frequency references, and just now started developing my own computerized log. If anyone wants to help me fill in ID's, help would greatly be appreciated. I primarily listen for transmissions in the 150.995 through 172.375 and also 451.025 through 492.9625 and have enjoyed listening to them. I primarily also listen to transmissions comin from King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties. I have not got into the bands from 806.0125 through 823.9625 and 851.0125 through 868.9625 but I will get to logging those. I do have one question which might be a bit broad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is good to listen to from my area? I can sent anyone several hundred frequency loggings in a Excel file if anyone would like to help me out. I have from time to time connected the 5 or 6 indivudual antennas to my scanner and done a full band scan from 29 through 512 MHz and noted which frequencies the scanner stopped at, then gone back over it scanning the popular ranges of frequencies/bands. Are there any other good techniques such as this? I'm also gonna be putting up a small tower with a VHF and UHF Beam / Yagi antenna. Anyone know what is popular among the scanner freaks? I don't know how it is that my thread got off on a Space Shuttle track. A group of frequencies I have enjoyed listening to is from 154.0000 through 156.0000 where a majority of the VHF-Lo Police, Fire and EMT's are. There seems to be a lot in the WA area in this particular area of the band. Am I right that the frequencies in this band, ending in 000.0050 are low power / mobile / hand held? The other band is 452.0000 through 454.0000 and 461.0000 through 464.5000, which includes METRO, GMRS, FRS, and maybe a few others. If anyone wants to help me fill in ID's, help would greatly be appreciated. I have heard a lot of digital chirps, tones, paging sounds, and other non-voice communications. Not quite as interesting to listen to without the equipment that decodes this stuff. Greg gbowne1@yahoo.com Yahoo IM gbowne1 |
