I'm looking for a good christmas gift. Saw that the RS PRO-2055 (Base/mobile) unit is selling for about $ 170.00. Is it a good unit ? It looks like is has 1000 channels -- does analog -- not digital, but does decode both PL and DPL codes. And has the "signal stalker" -- that locates close radio signals. It also has the military air band ( 225 to 406 mhz) --- but no 700 mhz and most likely will not work after 800 mhz re-banding. Does anyone like the unit or not ?? Happy holiday's -- MTM |

Mike, The PRO-2055 is the base version of the PRO-97 which has been out for a couple of years now. I have a PRO-97 and really like it. There is a PRO-97 list that can probably answer any questions you may have about it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Pro-97/ |

Thanks Jim. I like my Pro-95 for trunking -- but it doesn't have the tone decoding feature or the signal stalking -- search that both the Pro-97 and Pro-2055 have. Everyone needs to have a scanner that decodes PL and DPL/DCS. Happy Holidays. Mike |

Just make sure you get one of the later builds.. The early ones have a manufacturing defect which renders the display U/S after a short while. |

MTM, I have the Pro-2055, it is a nice unit, i haven't had 1 complaint with it yet, but as we all know things change, the sound is pretty clear on it, i'm still trying to figure out all the features on it though. |

Does anyboby know when the reband kick in. I have a rs pro97 will I need a new scanner for that or can download software for the reband? |

It would appear from RS own statement that it comes down to the 97 being able to change steps from the current 25mhz to 12.5 It appears it will as far as I can see, just a user reprogram of the freqs. http://www.radioshack.com/sm-scanner-re ... ers12.html |

The 97 is actually 6.25 offset Well, I read up some more about rebanding, it evidently has to do with what control channel your scanner will dictate info to and 9600 baud band plan vs, 3600. It would seem to be guessing at this point until the first system is rebanded. GRE scanners might be ok, this is what I read: 9600bps systems can have up to 16 identifier tables. Each table contains a base frequency, step size, transmit offset, and bandwidth. Each identifier can have up to 4096 channels in the group. The standard identifier table for 800Mhz systems is: Base: 851.00625 Step: 0.00625 TX Offset -45.00000 Bandwidth: 0.00625 Some 800mhz systems also advertise the 700mhz table as well as: Base: 762.00625 Step: 0.00625 Tx Offset: 30.00000 Bandwidth: 0.00625 |

well I just had the same problem that bc was talking about, the display went out, i could turn the unit on and off to no avail, i hit search and then scan, now the display is back on and the unit is running fine.. if any 1 has had any other problems with the PRO-2055 please let me know so i'm not surprised. it's still pretty new only had it for a few weeks.. |

Rebanding does not change the channel spacing, control channel baud rate, or digital modulation. Rebanding does change the 800MHz frequencies for other 800MHz frequencies. We do not use 6.25KHz channels in analog mode. Wiz |
