Does anyone know if you can use a satellite dish for your scanner antenna?

:D :D Nick, I see your posts all the time and I like them. --- Just about any metal object could be used --- but if it's not "tuned" or "cut" to the correct size or length -- it will not work well -- for transmitting a signal. Even a small paper clip could be used. But it may not work very well. This is a hobby for most and a profession for others. Try anything once. That's how we learn. Worked as a disc-jocky at a small AM station. The engineer got bored and connected the transmitter to the SP Railroad tracks just 100 feet from the 200 foot AM towr. You could hear the 250 watt AM station over 40 miles away. It may not work at all. It depends on alot of factors. There is no yes / no answer. Or it could work great. Give it a try. MTM

Could be done if you replace the LNA/LNB with a small dipole (or folded dipole). In fact many people do this to convert 2.5ghz MMDS antennas into usable 2.4ghz antennas. Just remember to use appropriate spacing between the dipole and the reflector dish.

There is a great example of a VHF parabolic dish on a hill behind Port Angeles. Its huge... probably 25-30 feet tall. I'll have to post a pic someday.

I use that antenna to listen to all of the low powered fast food ops in Canada. :D :D
