The FCC has dismissed certification of XM's new wireless radio and Sirius has stopped production of some radios. XM has asked two manufacturing partners to suspend production of radios that exceed emission limits after the FCC dismissed changes to those receivers by XM. Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. reported that it had also instructed some of its manufacturers to stop making radios that do NOT comply with FCC rules. I'm a sirius guy and I have found the FM output side of my unit to be better than the $30.00 FM transmitters. in places I can hear it a little over a block and in other conditions 30 feet max. so even if it is over FCC limit - it can't be by much. On a side note, Mike any idea if the new FM station in Chimacum (87.9) is legal or not. Found it one night driving home - one minute I was listening to Howand and at the Chimacum light it switched to hard rock for the next mile. -m |

I can say for sure -- that it is NOT licensed. FM channel 200 (87.9 mhz) can only be used outside of the protected contours of any TV channel 6. As it turns out --- there is a very small area of the US that can use the 87.9. One or two spots is in the Mid-west and southeast. Is it legal -- ??? It depends on how much power they run -- if it complies with part 15. But my money is on NO. That doesn't mean that they are BAD people ---- LOL --- Just that they are pirates. -Did your hear about the pirate, that goes into a tavern, steps up to the bar and orders a drink. The barkeep says "Hey -- I see you have a boat steering wheel in your pants". The pirate says "ARRR !!! It's drivin' me nuts" !!!!!!! |

There is also a strong station in seattle - I think asian - on 87.9. So if anyone wants to get a hold of me my new sirius freq is 87.7 - call me. -m |

:D :D So -- You didn't like my pirate joke ???? LOL The AM broadcast band is "Un-listenable" at best. The NAB and others what the FCC to allow AM stations to use translators -. However -- when HDTV comes in the door -- after 2009 -- there will be only a very limited amount of HDTV stations using TV channels 2 to 6. This is because they use from 54 Mhz to 88 Mhz and are prone to "skip". However -- by turning those lower TV channels into an "extended FM Band" --- and by moving all existing AM broadcast stations with less than 1 KW Fulltime over to the new FM channels -- might be best for all. If the FCC can allot 173.075 to Lojack -- nationwide --- there must be one or two frequencies for "low power -- entertainment devices", other than in the middle of the FM broadcast band itself. This is true with the "fast Food -- order taking" devices as well. There does not have to be a fight over use of any spectrum. It would just require that govenment and the FCC do a better job. |
