FCC Issues Citation to Company Selling Cell-Jammer Device (7/31/09)
The FCC sent Robert O'Harvey, president of Spy Store, in Spokane, Wash., a citation for importing and selling cell-jamming equipment in the United States. Future violations of the FCC rules may subject the company to monetary forfeitures, an FCC letter said.
Spy Store began marketing the GPS-JM2 GPS jammer on or about July 31, 2007, and sold 69 units. The device was imported from an import/export company in China. O’Harvey said the importation of GPS-JM2 was discontinued once he became aware that the units were unlawful in the United States.

“If, after receipt of this citation, you violate the Communications Act or the commission’s rules in any manner described herein, the commission may impose monetary forfeitures not to exceed $16,000 for each such violation or each day of a continuing violation,” the citation said.

O’Harvey can respond in writing or in personal, the FCC said.

Mt Spokane High School actually bought one and got it up and running, to keep kids from using their phones.
I think it was a bunch of complaints to the cell carriers from parents which ultimately discovered it.
Now I see several state DOC's want to use them.

They're great on the bus. Theoretically, of course.

I think Zetron used to sell a cell phone detector. I think the product gave an audible alarm but did not jam anything. If I remember right Zetron sold the product line to another company.

I do find that people do not seem to care where they use their cell phones. I was at a theater and the guy behind me took a call while the movie was playing. Talk about rude!

Not to go off subject here, but I once got in a very heated argument with a guy and his "ho" who walked up to me at the counter at work to buy something. He was of course talking on his cell phone and I sold him the wrong thing because he wasn't listening to my questions and just replying with "Yea, I'll take that..Yea that....Yea". Then of course it was my fault for selling him the wrong thing and that "I shouldn't work there because I treat the customers like crap."

You should have seen the look on his face when he asked to see a manager and I said, "Hello, what can I do for you?"

He was very offended when I explained that to him.

...what movie theaters do you guys go to? I haven't heard someone use their cell phone in a theater since the 90s.

Ummm... isn't the GPS-JM2 GPS jammer a GPS jammer and not a cellular phone jammer?

Suitable for jamming L1 (1575.42 MHz)

The media usually goofs stuff like that up...

I can get them for about 30$... I wonder how much he was making...

The theater I went to has a policy against cell phone use. This person did not care. Jamming however can be a problem with a person who needs to call for emergency assistance that could be life or death.

Yeah, I agree.

One of my friends in HS was a usher for Regal Cinemas and in a given week, he would boot out of the theater about 2 people for using cell phones.

I've seen on DealXtreme a cell phone jammer. Looking at the specs, it only works on GSM phones and not CDMA. Now, the GPS jammers I think they are a bit more dangerous as some of them I've seen just distort the timing signal, not wipe it out, so the receiver is just getting an incorrect timing signal and could put someone in danger.

PS
Quest phone guy gave me shit when he found duct tape holding wires together inside my side of the outside box. Smart fucker, didn't believe me when I tried to blame it on my son...

Verizon has a bad enough time in town there. Be nice to us poor Verizon users out there... Its the only thing that works in Neah Bay and most places out west.

In a study Duct Tape was found to be a very usable product for a great many uses including wire management. The only real bad use for it was found to be repairing ac and heating ducts...
