Mike, I remember those WSP Motorola mobiles from the 60's and 70's They were some version of the Mocom but had colored buttons across to select tones or channels. They had "Washington State Patrol" printed on them.
Did the WSP use a rocker PTT like CHP to select car to car?
I know it's an old topic, but I felt the need to offer a correction.
The control heads you refer to are, if I'm not mistaken, part of the GE MASTR II's we had in the cars prior to my arrival in ESD. GE made those especially for us.
To the best of my knowledge, Mocoms were never part of the WSP radio fleet.
And yes... The older Syntor X's all have a rocker mike that selects transmit on either area or car-to-car. So do most of the new M/A-Com units, but there has been talk of dumping that feature.
Happy listening.
