Hello everyone. I am a lifelong radio hobbyiest. I was into CB for years. Upper and lower freqs, Linear power ect. I gave up scanners about 10 years ago becasue the new Trunk types were a pain in the booty to use compared to analog.

Well I had been wanting to get back in the hobby as I have Ham friends still in it. My buddy called me up today and said NOW or NEVER! The pro-97 on Sale for $149.00 at the Shack!

I said Trunk, He said YEA but alot has changed over 10 years old man! He claims they are alot easier to use and much better! I said but arnt they going all digital encrypted? He said Seattle is encrypted but he went on to tell me that the digital pro-96 he has is very very good. But that most digital is or will be encrypted so I should save my money and buy the 97 model.

Plus I could not warrent spending the money on a hobby that I am just getting back into!

They programmed the radio for me. Very nice compared to the old days!

So did I get a decent mid priced rig? Is it really going to be FUN! Is it easier then 10 years ago to program?

I heard on the Yahoo group that the PC cable and software is not available anylonger. Is this true?

Would love to hear some feedback. ANd some links to local scanner clubs or boards to join for fun and knowledge.
Thanks team!

Lots of people have the Pro97 and like them. Thay are somewhat of a pain to program from the keypad. Thus why software is out there and can make the job 10x easier. You can still get the serial programming cable. Either from Shack or off the net. The software is located here http://www.starrsoft.com
This site has lots of info on the cable too.
