I've misplaced the manual for the two-band 580, and I haven't used it for several years. The Alinco web sites offers as downloads many manuals but not the 580. They also haven't responded to my e-mail yet so I'm turning to you folks for help.

I seem to remember that the 580 can be put into cross-band mode but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it.

There are several button combinations that I can't figure out. They are the combinations in a blue color.

What is BS mode? (yeah, I know...) When I am on a frequency, activating it puts an S in the display. I would normally suspect that means simplex but it doesn't
What is TMS mode? When I activate it, it puts a T in the display but it's not the same as the T-SQL function because now I see 2 T's when I have a frequency that I want tone PL on.
What is MESS mode? When I activate it, I don't see the display change and I get a low-toned beep, which usually means on this radio that it is an error.

And, what is DUAL mode? I thot that was cross-band setting. When I activate it, however, it puts PRI (priority?) on the display and the frequency switches back and forth between the frequency in the VFO mode and the frequency saved in the channel mode.

Ok I think BS might stand for band scan where you can set the radio up to scan between 2 frqs like from 144.000-148.000

TMS might be tone memery scan

Mess might be short for messages like send a message to someone like a call sign

Thanks. I should not have posted so early. I Googled Alinco 580 and didn't find anything. But I forgot to Google the news groups and I found a 1994 posting where someone posted the 58-page manual. So, I'm good to go.
