Well your choice would depend if you were going to travel into a lot of areas that use the APCO 25 standard. Most cities to my knowlege still do not use the digital standard as of ye, with few exceptionst, so the 150 $ that you would spend on the non digi radio, would be money well spent.

I have the BC 780 non digi, but at 150, if the radio pefroms well, it would be hard to beat, the BC 785 seels for 300, so I would do it, unless again, you don't need the digital board.

forgot to comment on channels, I don't think you would need the 1000 channels , unless you wanted a few trunked systems in at one time. - Again it would be good to evaluate what you want to use the radio for - and how much listening you want to do, but 500 is plenty for the average user, generaly.
