I'm new to the area and wondering what the difference is between the FD calls for AID requests vs. MEDIC requests? They seem to mean the same thing to me however I see that Seattle FD for example dispatches both types - so it obviously means distinctly different types of service. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks,

Gordon

Generally:
Medic calls relate to anything life threatening such as:
Heart related, serious Trauma etc.
Aid calls are everything else
SFD operate 6 Medics and 4 Aid units I believe
Hope this helps

Seattle has the following.
Medic 1, Medic 10, Medic 16, Medic 18, Medic 28, Medic 31, Medic 32
Aid 2, Aid 5, Aid 14, Aid 25.

It must still be there. It is not listed under the apparatus showcase and all the calls lately for station 17 have shown Engine 17 responding.

Aid 17 was placed out of service in February 2003 although they do put in service on very very very very rare occasions like on the 4th of July and new years eve because of increase call volumes at large events that bring lots of extras people to Seattle.
